JO3; Need for F-Speed

Dear gamers, I apologize for my extended absence. I'm currently stage managing a fantastic theater production and have had no time to myself to settle down and start up a new game to talk about. I feel terrible about not posting though, so I decided I could at least announce my next game, which I will be posting about right away. I thought about what game I would play, trying to consider what I'll have time for, what kind of game I would even want to play, etc... And I came to a final decision!

Not just a racing game - a FUTURE racing game. With jet-cars and boosters and Captain Falcon. Everytime I see the cover I just think "Show me your moves!" And I intend to. Yes that's the wrong game. Yes that one is amazing too. Sadly that's not on the SNES so I can't blog about it... Not yet.

Catch ya later gamers.

P.S. Thank you for the continuous views, really makes me feel like I'm providing some entertainment - don't be so shy and comment! Let us know how we're doing.

Mega Man X: The Hell is a Kuwanger?

Kuwanger. Boomer Kuwanger. That's the boss I have set myself against. I don't know how to feel about him really, considering he strikes a pose like a disco-fever maniac. I'm guessing that he's going to have a boomerang attack; call me crazy.

The level started in a metallic room with ladder that I had to traverse upwards along. The was that bugger with the shield and the morningstar arm (see Flame) but I could use the rolling shield and a jump upwards to hit behind him without having to be at risk. So I continued onwards until I came to a laser room.

You see where those small grey things float? Well, between them is a laser line that flashes in and out, and if it hits you then those bigger guys shoot you. I had to dash through them, try and leap over others; at the same time avoiding floating robot pink guys. Uncool. I did manage to make my way through only getting hit a couple times though, so it wasn't so bad.
Next section was a moving platform with spiked walls and spiked obstacles. I'm guessing the spikes were one shot kills, but I didn't want to find out. So I moved my ass side to side as fast as I could.

Again, the floating pink robot heads were buzzing around, purposely getting in my way, and hitting me to try and knock me into the spikes. I manage to make it through that death trap without the death which was fantastic.

I exited out of the spiked elevator and was on the outside of the tower I was climbing. So I began my jumping. I went up and up along the wall, avoiding the turrets that would pop out during my ascent. I climbed some ladders, did some fancy dash-wall-leaps, and then came to another entrance. However, there was a health increase that I couldn't figure out how to acquire.
Try as I might, I could not do any sort of leap-wall-jump combo to get to it, so I continued on my way. This section was pretty short, just involved killing some turrets which were floating on moving platforms, and jumping higher and higher until I came to the boss door to face; Boomer Kuwanger!
I just see him going crazy on the dance floor for Saturday Night Fever or something, don't you? Ya, anyway, I thought the Chameleon was fast! Boomer here jumps around in a blinky-dash-teleport thing. And I was right, he whips a boomerang from his head. He was damn hard to hit, BUT the heat-seeking missiles were his weakness. So every time one hit him, he would get stunned; on top of the large chunk of health the missile would take out. Needless to say, he died pretty fast. And I unlocked a boomerang power!

Now, from previous video game experience (Zelda, in particular) one could use boomerangs in order to pull items that are normally out of reach oneself.... Mental note made. 1 Boss left, you're going down Storm Eagle. Catch ya later gamers.

Super Metroid: Die alien vermin and space golems!

So I logged about an hour and a half on Metroid today. Most of it was spent going from my save point to the golem that's guarding the morph-ball bombs, dying, then doing it again. Finally, after I decided to stop sucking at fighting this mini-boss and use some real strategy I beat him. Then I got killed by wall-crawlies only a few rooms away, having to start from the save point all over again.

Now, about save points. I have played many games with this feature and most of them strategically place them so when you finish something really hard, you save, and you never have to face that horror ever again. Unfortunately, in Metroid, this was not the idea. The save points are more like off-the-beaten-path rooms that you have to go well out of your way to get to, so obviously you're thinking to yourself...well I have two full energy tanks, why bother saving. Oh wait, the giant plant eyeball boss is in your way!

PS: Here's my WTF of the day.

I don't know what this is about yet, but I have a feeling I'll figure it out later. As of now, it seems a bit early in the game for such huge mysteries. I might just be dumb, but I personally was weirded out by this monstrosity's appearance.
Moving along. I did defeat the giant plant eyeball thing and I felt pretty good about myself up until I discovered the super missile and promptly got killed by those little egg sacks that spit baby egg sacks. Sending back to the save point quite a ways before the eyeball thing, but (thankfully) after the killer golem. So I saved and shut the game off, and shaking off my rust before getting back into it.
Oh, and another thing. I've discovered (due to all my deaths) that Super Metroid has got to be the only game in history to have a slightly positive twist on player death...

Yes...Samus's armor explodes and you get a brief glimpse of her in her bit-sized skivvies. I personally found this weird. I pulled the image off of this guy's blog, btw. If you want more extensive information on Metroid and it's history I suggest checking it out:

Anyways. Until next time, I'll be hoping for space pirates and killing stupid ceiling jumpers.

JO3: Mega-Gaming Begins

Well hello there. I'm JO3 and I'm the other co-author/founder guy of this here 16 Bit Warriors schtick. I'm looking forward to blasting through (attempting to at least) these 721 games. I love SNES, it holds some of the best memories of gaming from many years ago. TMNT IV anyone? Ya. Love it
.

As ME0 explained thoroughly, we're going to be playing one game at a time through our vast collection of SNES games, sharing tips we find for ourselves, general strategies, and of course, cursing the day we were born because everything is so gorram difficult in SNES. This is before the time of autosaves. Before the time of memory cards. Before the time of having infinite continues! When you die too many times, you start at the beginning of the game in many cases. These games will beat us down and leave us bear for the internet's reading pleasure; and I can't wait to get started.

So without further ado, game number 1!

I've decided to take on Mega Man X as my first challenge, even though ME0 is doing a side-scroller as well. I can guarantee our experiences and tales of woe will be vastly different, and I'm excited to experience some mega buster action. Time to hunt down some Mavericks.

ME0: Ready Set Game

Hey blogosphere, it's me, ME0. I'm the co-author/co-founder of this here blog, and since it was my big fat idea I decided to post before J03. We are the 16-Bit Warriors and we're here to deliver to the public a very special kind of service. There will be some entertainment, some online venting, reader participation, polls, contests, and general video game help

What's the big idea? Well! To put it simply, JO3 and I will be playing all 721 mainstream released SNES games. Not just play, but BEAT. Yes, beat. As in defeat, rap, whoop, destroy, and WIN.

I know what you're thinking. When I first came up with the idea, the only question I had was...but how? Some games don't have endings, sports games are infinitely re-playable, puzzle games sometimes go on and on, and some games aren't games, but simulators. Well that's what the blog is for, gamers. When we are about to begin a game that doesn't have a definitive "ending" that's when we turn to our readers and figure out what the equivalent is. An example would be a certain sports game would require us to beat the whole league on the hardest difficulty. Cool? Cool.

So. The challenge has been made (by us, to us), and we have accepted. Today is the first day of a long long road. There will be emotions...broken controllers...bitter girlfriends...the temptation to look up cheats online, but we are going to try and be 100% honest and fun about this. If you're reading, I look forward to your input as the blog progresses. Until then, Game On!

First game on ME0's list?: Super Metroid!

I only have one thing to say for the start of this game so far.
Space Pirates? I hope I encounter them.
Metroid Fans may now proceed with the making-fun.
