Breath of Fire - Herbaliscious
There are times when you enter a dungeon and there is a treasure chest close to the entrance. This is good. The Gods of gaming have bestowed upon you an Herb farm. Unless it has an equipable item inside, you can leave the dungeon and return to a re-sealed chest. Keep doing this until you have lots of Herbs!
Super Metroid - Ammo Farming:
When you're low on Energy and Ammo of all sorts, find a location that has a pipe in the ground where enemies will continually pop out of them. They might seem like an inconvenient obstacle, but they're great for just blasting and loading back up on your missiles and such.
Super Metroid - Lava Panic:
If ever you get stuck in lava, the key to survival is not not panic and repeatedly press the jump button. What I've learned was that by just holding it gently down as if you were casually jumping out of a regular pit, it lets you jump normally. The game tries to suck you in by making you think you can't jump out no matter how hard you struggle, but its wrong, don't struggle, just get out calmly. Of course this no longer becomes a problem once you have the Gravity Suit in MOST lava places. Some places have EVEN HOTTER LAVA. Again, employ the no-panic rule.
Super Metroid - Metroids:
They will literally suck your life all the way down if you don't get out of there. The only way I've discovered how to cure Metroids is to leave through the nearest door. They will no longer be attached to you.
